This park is in Transylvania County close to where North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia meet. The park has plunging waterfalls, rugged river gorges, and steep rock cliffs. The area is perfect for backpacking and horseback riding, or just walking on a trail!

Located in Montgomery County, Town Creek shares the history of the first people to live in present day North Carolina. It also gives visitors a chance to learn about and celebrate the traditions of the many American Indian communities living in our state to this day.

This area in Moore County allows visitors to experience longleaf pine forests. These trees once covered millions of acres in the southeastern United States. The tall pines – some of them hundreds of years old — tower over many trails that weave through acres of wiregrass.

This park is in Camden County along the state’s northeast border with Virginia. The park gives access to the Great Dismal Swamp, the largest remaining swamp in the eastern United States. It is home to many unique plants and animals. It also has a deep cultural history that includes American Indians, George Washington, and the Underground Railroad.

Plott and Carolina end their journey near Nags Head on the North Carolina coast. The Bodie Island Lighthouse is part of the National Park Service. The lighthouse has guided ships safely through our coast since 1872. Today, it is one of seven surviving North Carolina Outer Banks lighthouses that stand as symbols of resilience and watch over our shores.
