Many opportunities to experience art, history and nature await you on Veteran's Day from the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Most state historic sites are closed, but all state parks are open.
Many DNCR venues are open, and offer free admission to all on Veteran's Day. To salute veterans and their families, we are offering free and discounted admissions to many venues to active military with ID.
Free or low-cost activities across the state include:
- N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher, Roanoke Island, and Pine Knoll Shores: Free admission to veterans
- N.C. Zoo: On Friday, Nov. 11, Active duty, retired and reserve members of the United States Armed Forces showing a valid military ID will be admitted free while up six of their guests will receive $2 off the standard price of admission to the conservation park.
- Tryon Palace: Free to veterans, discounts for immediate family
- N.C. Transportation Museum: Regular military discounts apply
- Battleship North Carolina: Discounts to active military, veterans and spouses daily
- N.C. Museum of Art: Free admission to vets, active military and families to the “Rolling Sculpture: Art Deco Cars of the 1930s and 40s” exhibition
- N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences: Specially discounted $5 military veteran tickets for “The Secret World Inside You” exhibition (Available all weekend, Nov. 11-13, 2016)
- Fort Dobbs Living History Program honoring our state's veterans -- Free admission
- Weymouth Woods Nature Preserve: Walk with a Veteran at Weymouth Woods, 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11
- Lake James State Park: Overmountain Victory Trail Veteran's Day Hike, 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11
