Tryon Palace will offer behind-the-scenes tours at the costume shop and conservation lab Tuesdays throughout the month of July. All tours will begin at 2 p.m. at the Waystation, located on the corner of Pollock and George streets in downtown New Bern.
Tryon Palace conservation specialist Richard Baker will lead a tour of the conservation lab July 12. Visitors will learn how Baker cares for antiques, like cleaning silver, brass and pewter items, and conserving other items in the Palace collection like ceramics, furniture and artwork. Through these examples, Baker will demonstrate how visitors can care for their own antiques.
The first and last behind-the-scenes tours of the month will be July 5 and July 26, at the Tryon Palace Costume Shop. Tours will be led by historic clothing interpreter Leslie Lambrecht and held inside the historic Jones House, which serves as the home of the Tryon Palace Costume Shop.
Admission to all behind-the-scenes tours is included with a One Day Pass or purchased separately at a cost of $6 for adults and $3 for students. Space is limited on each tour.
