Calling all history enthusiasts to join in cleaning efforts on Civil War Park Day Sat., April 2. Since 1996 the Civil War Trust has promoted Civil War Park Day to preserve our nation's heritage and keep Civil War sites pristine. Civil War Park Day is a great undertaking for individuals or scout troops, service groups or church youth groups.
Five state venues in North Carolina are participating in the program; including historic sites Bennett Place, Bentonville Battlefield, Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson, Fort Fisher and the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport. Each site chooses its projects and makes the day special. The Civil War Trust will provide t-shirts for volunteers.
Bennett Place, Durham
Projects include clearing debris, landscaping the picnic area, remarking nature trails, clearing debris from the cemetery and preparing the historic kitchen garden. Bentonville Battlefield, Four Oaks
Projects include debris removal from trails and installing trail signage. Please bring small hand or garden tools; no power tools. Bottled water and lunch will be provided. 9:30 a.m.-until complete. Please contact (910) 594-0789 or Amanda.brantley@ncdcr.gov for information or to volunteer.
Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson, Winnabow
Projects include debris removal along the property and waterfront, ruin stabilization including work on fences and leaf/weed removal, cleaning wayside signs and park benches and sanding and sealing the entrance sign. Fort Fisher, Kure Beach

North Carolina Maritime Museum, Southport
Projects include grounds cleanup, landscaping the museum entry and planting the popular history garden. Girl Scout Clarissa Sommers will work toward her gold award with the history garden project. Volunteers should be at least 10-years-old. All ability levels are encouraged to participate. The state historic sites and the Maritime Museum-Southport are within the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
