Somerset Place Celebrates Summertime with Days Gone By Program Saturday, June 20

<p>Go back in time and visit another era during this annual, free event to explore and experience history, fun, food, arts and crafts during the &quot;Days Gone By&quot; program June 20, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Somerset Place State Historic Site. This history, fun-filled and educational day will feature life on a plantation through hands-on historic activities with costumed interpreters.</p>

Go back in time and visit another era during this annual, free event to explore and experience history, fun, food, arts and crafts during the "Days Gone By" program June 20, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Somerset Place State Historic Site. This history, fun-filled and educational day will feature life on a plantation through hands-on historic activities with costumed interpreters.

Tours of the plantation homes, outbuildings and grounds will be available where visitors can see historic demonstrations, exhibits and get aboard a pony ride from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Youngsters will enjoy period games, visitors can sample hearth-cooked food and local artists and vendors will sell their wares. Food vendors will also be available. Activities will also include rope making, candle making and sedge broom making.

Somerset Place interprets the 19th century, 100,000 acre Somerset Plantation where rice, oats, wheat and other crops were raised. This self-contained community bordering Lake Phelps at one time was home to 850 enslaved workers. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
