The 1897 Poe House, part of the Museum of Cape Fear Historical Complex, will once again serve as the backdrop for another Sweet Tea Shakespeare performance. The Tempest will run July 16-19 and 23-26 at 7 p.m. nightly. Come at 6:15 p.m. for What You Will, the preshow entertainment, food, and fun.
The Tempest follows the survivors of a shipwreck as they explore an island occupied by a former adversary, the magician Prospero. Prospero’s daughter, Miranda, and wards, and trickster spirit, Ariel, and a wild inhabitant of the island, Caliban, are each coming of age as Prospero tries to reconcile their new realities with his former life. A haunting, lavish, and magical tale of revenge and reconciliation, The Tempest is at once a raucous comedy and a stirring adventure. The cast features Ruth Nelson, Tohry Petty, Jessica Osnoe, Nicole Callaghan, Marie Lowe, Cerina Johnson, Joyce Borum, Katie Wampler, Liz Covington, Medina Demeter, Jennifer Czechowski, Brandon Bryan, Ja’Maul Johnson, and Nathan Pearce. The director is Jeremy Fiebig and the music director is Jacob French.

Sweet Tea Shakespeare is a project of Fayetteville State University, and seeks to celebrate the wonder of Shakespeare, other classic plays, and new work in beautiful environments with family-style flare by providing simple, elemental, magical theatre experiences. STS imagines, enacts, and embraces theatre in the spirit of Shakespeare and early modern performance by employing the ingenuity and drive behind Shakespeare’s own company.
