Learn about the history of toys and games at the North Carolina History Center during the monthly Lunch and Learn lecture series set for Friday, Nov. 20, from noon to 1 p.m. Find out what dolls were really made of, why board games became so popular in the 19th century and more during this month’s lecture.
Immediately following the Lunch and Learn program, visitors will be given a sneak peek of Tryon Palace’s latest exhibit, “Child’s Play.” Not open to the general public until the following day, Child’s Play is an exhibition of toys ranging from 18th century ivory dominoes and 20th century model trains to homemade toys, tech toys and more.
Pack a lunch and join Tyron Palace research historian Siobhan Fitzpatrick in the Debnam-Hunt Board Room on the second floor of the North Carolina History Center, overlooking the Trent River in downtown New Bern.
Tickets for each event are $6 per person and free for Tryon Palace Foundation members. Each Lunch and Learn will begin at noon. Guests will meet in Mattocks Hall, located inside the North Carolina History Center.
