The life of a Cherokee warrior, provincial soldier, plus military drill and 18thcentury cooking will fascinate and delight children at Fort Dobbs Summer Camp. Two inaugural sessions will be the week of June 23-26 and July 28-31. Preregistration and a $75 fee is required.
Fort Dobbs hosts field trips and re-enactments regularly, and for the first time this summer will bring the fun of living history to children ages eight through 12. Other activities will include gardening and hiking. The finale of the four day camp will be an awesome 18th century inspired water balloon battle that will test newly acquired soldiering skills.
The lives of soldiers, settlers and warriors of the 1750s will combine history with fun. Sessions will be 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. The fee includes tax, a snack, a camp T-shirt and souvenirs. Registration is now open and spots are expected to fill quickly.
For more information and registration, please call (704) 873-5882 or email info@fortdobbs.org. Fort Dobbs is the only state historic site dedicated to the period of the French and Indian War (1754-1763), and is North Carolina's only link to a war for empire that crossed five continents and lasted nearly 10 years.
