Visitors can experience a taste of life on the brink of the Revolutionary War at the Tryon Palace Living History Weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 4, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 5.
Throughout the weekend Tryon Palace will feature hands-on experiences like interacting with reproduction artifacts from 18th-century trades, enjoying period music from Historical Interpretations, Inc., playing traditional lawn games, and visiting the Tryon Palace blacksmith.
Visitors can understand the lives of colonial Americans through costumed interpreters, hair weaving demonstrations, learning about 18th-century medicines, and finding out what happened to New Bern's wig maker and one of the local doctors during the Revolution.
All Living History Weekend activities on site included with purchase of One Day Pass or Gardens Pass.
"It's Revolutionary," a one-day exhibit, will also be on display in Mattocks Hall at the North Carolina History Center Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit is free and features documents on loan from the State Archives of North Carolina focusing on revolutionary politics and the North Carolina signers of the Declaration of Independence. Archivists from the North Carolina State Archives will be on hand to talk with visitors and answer questions.
