State Archives public research spaces in Raleigh, the Western Regional Archives in Asheville and the Outer Banks History Center in Manteo will open to the public on a limited basis Nov. 12 with some new procedures in place to help ensure the safety of staff and visitors, including:
• Researchers are encouraged to use State Archives web resources and contact staff at https://archives.ncdcr.gov/ to determine if they can conduct research remotely.
• Search room hours will be Monday-Friday, 1-4 p.m. in Raleigh and Manteo, and Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 1-4 p.m. in Asheville.
• Visitors will be required to make an appointment online at https://archives.ncdcr.gov. Only visitors with an appointment will be allowed in the building.
• Seating will be limited to 20% capacity at each location.
• Staff and visitors are required to wear cloth face masks as outlined in Executive Order 163.
• Records and other shared items may be quarantined up to 48 hours after use.
• Hand sanitizing stations are available.
• Plexiglass barriers have been installed at staff service desks.
• Public computer terminals in each search room will be closed. Researchers should bring their own pencil, laptop or other electronic device, and camera/phone for making copies of documents. Pens are not allowed in the search room.

Visitors are encouraged to follow the “Three Ws” as outlined by the N.C. Dept. of Health and Human Services – WEAR a cloth face mask; WAIT in line at least six feet away from others, and WASH hands frequently or use hand sanitizer. If you are experiencing symptoms of illness, we ask that you postpone your visit.
