The North Carolina Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped will celebrate 60 years of service to North Carolinians during a public Open House Celebration Thursday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1841 Capital Blvd., Raleigh. The event will feature live music and readings by local authors.
This event was rescheduled from its original date in September due to Hurricane Florence.
The North Carolina Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is a free library program that serves patrons with visual or physical impairments, from preschoolers to centenarians. The library brings reading materials in digital audio, print and braille formats straight to the homes of patrons via U.S. mail at no cost to users. People who sign up with the program also have the option of downloading books and magazines over the Internet in audio or braille format.
During the event, local author Clay Griffith, will be reading from his work at 10:30 a.m. Library patron Phil Walters will sing and play at 12:30 p.m. Saxophonist Ed Lyons will entertain at 2 p.m.

About the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
The North Carolina Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NCLBPH) is a special public library that circulates books and magazines especially made for persons who cannot use regular printed material because of a visual or physical disability. The library is located in Raleigh, but mails materials throughout the state. The NCLBPH is a state agency operated by the State Library of North Carolina as a part of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. It is also a part of the network of regional libraries operated by the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS).
