Sit at home, turn on your laptop or tablet, and learn what resources and tools are available at the State Archives of North Carolina and the N.C. Government and Heritage Library for researching your family history. The annual Family History Fair streams on Saturday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Archivists, librarians, and other specialists will describe what clues to your genealogy can be found in city directories, newspapers, maps, and local and county records. Discover records available online through the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center.
This year’s theme, “Start @Home” emphasizes community and local history in several sessions. Additionally, learn how to research the genealogy of your home in the concluding session at 1 p.m., “Genealogy of a House.” Staff from the North Carolina Historic Preservation Office will discuss ways to identify building elements of a property in order to date it.
