Hemlock Bluffs sits on a bluff overlooking Swift Creek in the heart of Cary. For years, the 140-acre preserve and its 3 miles of hiking trail has served as an escape for local residents, young and old. The Stevens Nature Center, which anchors the preserve, has provided a wealth of information about the area's natural surroundings.
Today, we celebrate Hemlock Bluffs and the Stevens Nature Center with a series of Year of the Trail events, kicking off at 9:30 a.m.
9:30 a.m. -- Opening remarks about the center from local and state officials
10 a.m.-noon -- Trail workday. Help keep the preserve in tip-top shape by participating in a two-hour workday. Registration is required: https://mycary.org/s/programs
10 a.m.-noon -- Guided hikes of the preserve will be held following the opening remarks.
10:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. -- Beginning Birding with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission's NC Bird Atlas. Join experienced birders and learn to identify local birds by sound and by sight. This event is at Ritter Park, adjoining Hemlock Bluffs. Binoculars provided. Learn more and register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/.../yott-beginning-birding-at...
