Stephen Nicholson

Capital Area Visitor Services, Director

As an Education and Outreach team member, I help groups of 10 or more patrons from across the state and beyond plan their visits to key educational and historical sites within the Capital District of Raleigh. As the director of Capital Area Visitor Services, I manage logistics and provide general information about sites such as the NC State Capitol, NC Executive Mansion, NC Legislative Building, NC Freedom Park, NC Museum of Natural Sciences, and NC Museum of History. Our office also offers information on additional learning resources available at these sites. Additionally, we work closely with site coordinators and administrators to ensure our guests have the best possible experience.

I have been with DNCR since 2007, beginning my tenure at the NC Museum of History shortly after my first tour in Baghdad. During my time at the museum, I had the pleasure of working in the Director’s Office, as well as in the Administration and Marketing sections. I completed my undergraduate degree at NCCU and have since pursued graduate-level coursework in Data Analytics and Business Administration. I have held my current position since 2016, and I'm deeply passionate about helping patrons explore and appreciate North Carolina's rich culture. I aim to create memorable experiences that visitors can take back and share with their local and international communities.
