As a program assistant, I play a key role in supporting the team's various projects and initiatives, which includes assisting in the development of educational materials and staffing outreach events to provide programming. The main focus of my work is supporting the National History Day® program in North Carolina.
I grew up in Granville County. I graduated from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Philosophy, along with a Public History Certification. I've always been passionate about education, but I didn't feel called to be a classroom teacher, so I became a non-formal educator. I've done a bit of everything that you can while working in public history, including collections work, creating exhibits, giving tours, and developing educational programs and materials. Before joining the DNCR Education and Outreach team in 2019, I worked as the Assistant Director at the Granville County Historical Society Museum. I also spent two years as a Historic Interpreter at West Point on the Eno in Durham.
