Our State Historic Preservation Office helps individuals, organizations and local, state and federal agencies identify and enhance historically and archaeologically significant properties across North Carolina.
The office offers a range of services, including:
- Producing a statewide survey of historic buildings, districts and landscapes
- Making nominations of eligible properties to the National Register of Historic Places
- Conducting environmental review of state and federal actions affecting historic and archaeological properties
- Offering technical assistance to owners in the restoration of historic properties, including those owners seeking state and federal rehabilitation income tax credits
- Providing grant assistance for historic preservation projects
- Administering the Certified Local Government (CLG) program and offering assistance to local historic preservation commissions
- Historic preservation education, including publication of preservation plan updates and the HPO newsletter, Worth Saving
